Many of the academy’s players went on trials at various clubs, impressing coaches and earning valuable recognition. This period was also pivotal for the group’s domestic involvement, as Hola Skoko FC participated in the Deep South LFA and fielded a team in the SAFA Promotional League, which sits just one tier below the prestigious Castle (SAB League). Competing at this level was an invaluable experience, providing the coaching staff, led by Coach Nishaan, with the necessary insights to further elevate the standard of their football programs. Inspired by these challenges, Coach Nishaan pursued additional coaching qualifications, strengthening his expertise and reaffirming his commitment to player development.

 

The Birth of The Soccer Studio and Focus on Grassroots Development

 

In early 2019, the Hola Skoko Group made a strategic decision to take a step back from its primary football academy operations to focus on grassroots football development. This decision gave birth to “The Soccer Studio - Soccer School” (TSS), a program designed to provide specialized coaching for younger players, ages 4 to 14. The aim was clear: to cultivate football skills at the foundational level, ensuring that young players receive the best possible training in a structured environment.

 

Under the leadership of an academy director and with specialist coaches in each division, TSS quickly gained momentum, growing rapidly throughout the 2019 season. This success inspired the creation of the Junior Soccer League (JSL) in March 2020. The JSL became an internal competition for TSS players, drawing in teams from other regions such as Soweto, Sandton, and Noordgesig. The league fostered an environment where players could face off against competitive clubs, providing them with the exposure and experience necessary to excel in the football world.

The vision behind the JSL was to create a football hub that attracted scouts from across the country. With thousands of players from different backgrounds competing in one location, scouts had the opportunity to evaluate players of all abilities in one place.
